McCarthy & Stone's newest Retirement Living development in Monkseaton has been named Bygate Court by two pupils at Monkseaton Middle School, who won a competition to find the site a name of local significance.

Chosen from a host of suggestions made by students, the development on Chapel Lane was given its new moniker by Molly Langford Hook (age 13 years) and Chris Nichol (age 11 years), who each submitted the title when they found out that their school had previously been known as Bygate Secondary Modern School.

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy & Stone commented: "We pride ourselves on building communities and not just homes, so we always aim to select names for our new developments that will have real meaning to the local residents.

"Being able to work alongside the students at Monkseaton Middle School has helped us to gain a better understanding of the Monkseaton community as a whole, and we have been really impressed by the amount of valuable research they each put in to coming up with some great names.

"We chose Bygate Court as it clearly reflects a bygone era in Monkseaton's history that is still important to the local community. We would like to thank Molly and Chris for coming up with such a fitting name for our new development."

When complete, Bygate Court will provide 38 Retirement Living apartments designed exclusively to offer people over the age of 60 an independent and secure environment in which to make the most of their retirement.

Nestled in a residential area close to the heart of Monkseaton village, the purpose built apartments will provide residents with a low-maintenance and sociable lifestyle, along with the added peace of mind they still own their own home.

The apartments will each include a number of thoughtful design features such as a 24-hour personal emergency call service, and a camera TV entry system for extra security, while a communal residents' lounge, and a guest suite for visiting family and friends, will ensure that residents are able to stay active.
