A group of retirees in Lymington have caught the New Year fitness bug and have started a weekly fitness class at McCarthy & Stone's Assisted Living development, Farringford Court, to help keep them active and healthy in their retirement.

A group of around 10 residents from the development on Avenue Road, attend a weekly exercise class, which takes place in the residents' dining room.

83 year old John Brockman attends the fitness class every Friday and says it's great fun. "I had never thought about joining an exercise class before, but when Bernie, our estate's manager told me she had organised for a fitness instructor to come to our development once a week, I thought I would give it a try.

"After my hip replacement operation, I've been trying to stay active, and the fact that I don't have to leave the development to exercise is a great bonus. We all have such a laugh each week, and it's lovely that I can take part in a class with like minded people that are all of a similar ability."

John isn't the only one who thinks the exercise class is wonderful. 85 year old Bette Blythe has run 17 marathons, and taken part in numerous triathlons and half marathons over the years, yet still enjoys her weekly exercise class.

"Our fitness instructor is fabulous. He starts us off with lots of breathing exercises, and then he helps us loosen our joints and muscles through various routines. We even have a fun ball game most weeks, which often gets slightly competitive between the residents!

"I absolutely love exercise and I think it's so important to keep your heart healthy in later life. I can't praise our exercise class enough; it's the best hour imaginable."

Farringford Court is located on Avenue Road, on the southern edge of the picturesque New Forest. The development extends the retirement living offering to the over 70s by providing residents who require additional daily assistance with the necessary support to enable them to live in their home for longer, as their needs change.

The development benefits from an onsite waitress service restaurant offering a host of 365 days of the year. Whilst the apartment's own fitted kitchen is well equipped, residents can choose to dine with family and friends in the restaurant and for those who are unable to make it down to the restaurant due to illness, meals can even be brought to their apartment.

One hour a week of domestic assistance is automatically provided to residents as part of the service charge but additional assistance can be purchased should it be required, on either a short or a longer term basis. Washing, ironing, shopping and other day to day chores can all be done on the residents behalf if required, leaving more time to enjoy their new found independence.

And for those who require it, either now or in the future, personal care is also available. This can be on a short or a longer term basis and importantly, the level of care is totally flexible to meet the changing needs of residents and, unlike a residential care home, you only pay for the care you receive.
Prices start from £237,950. To find out more, please visit the sales and marketing suite open daily from 10.30am to 5.00pm.
