Leading housebuilder Barratt, in partnership with Plymouth Community Homes, is celebrating the successful launch of PL2 in Plymouth.

The first phase of the £168m regeneration of North Prospect launched with a VIP event and open weekend, which was officially opened by the Lord Mayor - Councillor Peter Brookshaw.

Barratt managing director Tim Larner was delighted with how the launch event had gone and said that the open weekend had been hugely successful.

"There was tremendous interest ahead of the launch and it was fantastic to be able to officially open the doors and show people around the show homes and give them a real insight into how the community will develop over time,'' said Tim.

Two showhomes now form the centerpiece of the new sales complex at PL2, illustrating the quality and style which recently secured Barratt the title of Housebuilder of the Year.

"This is an important development for Barratt in the south west and the reaction from visitors at the launch reinforced that we are building the right product at the right prices and with the right schemes in place to help people move into one of these fantastic new homes,'' added Tim.

When the first phase of works finishes in January 2013, there will be a total of 148 energy efficient homes offering househunters a mix of one, two three and four bedroom homes - 80 of which will be handed over to Plymouth Community Homes.

This development marks a first for Plymouth Community Homes - selling homes under shared ownership schemes as well as offering affordable properties to rent.

Clive Turner, chief executive for Plymouth community Homes said: ""These are exciting times for Plymouth Community Homes - we are moving into unknown territory and are relishing the challenge.

"Now that the show homes are open, we can show people what they can expect; 148 new homes that meet high standards and are environmentally friendly and efficient.

"This regeneration is great news for Plymouth and will bring opportunity and growth to North Prospect, making it one of the most significant projects of its kind in the South West."

Work on the regeneration began in May last year and the project has received backing from Plymouth City Council and more than £3.9m in investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to support the delivery of 80 new affordable homes in the area.

Cabinet member for Strategic Housing, Planning and Economic Development Councillor Ted Fry said: "I'm delighted to see how the first phase of this regeneration project has taken shape. It is vital for our vision for Plymouth that we have quality homes built in the city and we've been working closely with our partners to support this development and the community. By working in this way we will continue to ensure the growth of the housing supply and the improvement in the quality of homes in the city."

PL2 is located just two miles from the city centre of Plymouth and is within walking distance of mainline trains and buses.

It provides easy access to the A38 to Exeter or Liskeard and the development is next door to a new purpose built primary school.

The Plymouth Community Homes sales suite is open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5pm.
