A new development of 476 new homes is currently under construction in Farnborough, Hampshire.

The 12-acre Farnborough Central development will comprise 85 refurbished apartments in existing buildings of historic interest, 194 new-build apartments and 54 new townhouses "sympathetically designed with art deco and modernist influences".

Created by Redrow Homes on a site next to Farnborough Business Park, the new development will provide homes for a range of buyers, particularly young professionals seeking stylish and convenient houses and apartments and first-time buyers who qualify for the 30 per cent affordable housing allocation.

Rushmoor Borough Council has granted detailed planning consent for the £85 million Farnborough Central development and work has started on the first phase, with apartments on sale from September this year.

Geoff Blake, land director for Redrow Homes (Southern), commented: "With detailed planning consent now in place and full ownership of the site confirmed we are delighted to be on site and preparing the first of two existing buildings for very careful and sympathetic renovation."

The wider site on which the Farnborough Central development is situated is home to the world famous Farnborough Aerodrome, which hosts the popular biennial Farnborough International Airshow, and two Grade 1 listed wind tunnel buildings. The development will benefit from its proximity to the Farnborough Business Park site with plans for 1.67 million square feet of business space, creche, cafe, heritage centre and hotel.
