As the old adage goes, good things come to those who wait, and for one retired couple from West Yorkshire that is certainly the case!
Janet and Barry Almond recently bought an apartment at McCarthy & Stone's Sykes Court development in Lindley, after holding out for five years for the perfect Retirement Living option in the ideal location.
Barry explains: "About five years ago, Janet and I went to visit a McCarthy & Stone development in Whitby. We were really impressed with all the amenities and conveniences McCarthy & Stone offered - low maintenance living in a secure, manageable environment but with maximum independence. However, on reflection we didn't want to move too far away from our daughters and so we put our dreams on hold until something closer to home became available."
So when the couple heard about the opening of Sykes Court in Lindley, they wasted no time in securing an apartment at the development. Now Janet and Barry are living the good life - enjoying all the benefits that come from living in one of Huddersfield's most desirable locations.
"The setting is fabulous - right in the centre of this charming village with lots of lovely shops and a fantastic bus service on your doorstep. From our apartment we also have the most amazing view towards Gawthorpe water tower, about 10 miles away, and across the beautiful surrounding countryside," adds Barry.
The Retirement Living development, which has been designed exclusively for the over 60s, is ideally located just off Lidget Street, which boasts an array of local independent shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also perfectly placed within easy reach of all your everyday essentials, such as doctors' surgeries, hair salons and a handy post office.
Sykes Court consists of 61 low-maintenance one and two bedroom retirement apartments in the popular Huddersfield suburb of Lindley. It was named after James Nield Sykes who was responsible for Lindley's most prominent landmark, the neighbouring Art Nouveau clock tower, erected at the turn of the 19th century.
All apartments benefit from a host of specialist features to make life more manageable, such as electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, illuminated light switches, and a camera entry system for added security.
The development itself is perfect for those who enjoy mixing with like-minded people in a relaxing environment, and comes furnished with a dedicated communal residents' lounge and landscaped gardens, which are ideal for socialising.
Barry comments: "The development offers a real sense of community; the common areas are brilliant as they allow people to get together when they please and often host a variety of events which are always a lot of fun."
Over two thirds of apartments have already been sold, so interested parties are being urged to hurry to avoid disappointment.
