A 1,300 mile relay challenge to raise funds for children's charity Barnardo's arrived in Scotland today (Thursday 17 May, 2012). Organised by McCarthy & Stone, the participants arrived at Gretna's Gateway Village on the England/Scotland border before heading to the retirement developer's The Granary Mews development in Dumfries at the beginning of their adventure through Scotland!

Heather Lamb of McCarthy & Stone's Northern region carried the iconic Barnardo's bear from Ponteland before handing him over into the safe hands of Kevin Ferris, a contracts manager for McCarthy & Stone in Scotland, who will cycle approximately 90 miles between the border and Hamilton, via McCarthy & Stone's The Granary Mews in Dumfries.

Starting today (17 May, 2012), the relay team will pass through Dumfries & Galloway, South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire, Perthshire and finally the Highlands before finishing at McCarthy & Stone's development Moravia Court in Forres, on 25 May, 2012.

The five week challenge will see over 200 employees walk, run, cycle, horse ride and even kayak their way across the country, before finishing in Forres, all in aid of Barnardo's. The sponsored event has been organised by McCarthy & Stone as part of its commitment to raise at least £50,000 for the charity.

Anyone wanting to show their support is invited to visit McCarthy & Stone's sponsorship page (http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/McStone), its Facebook page to watch the event unfold or to follow #MSRelay on Twitter. All money raised will go towards helping Barnardo's provide much needed support for over 100,000 children across 400 projects nationally.

McCarthy & Stone is currently offering a range of purpose built one and two bedroom apartments at developments across Scotland.
