McCarthy & Stone, the UK's leading retirement builder, has started construction work on its new Later Living development, Middleton Court in Porthcawl.

The new development on The Green Avenue will comprise 60 one and two bedroom apartments built exclusively for the over 60s, ideally located within walking distance of the promenade, shops and local amenities.

Aileen King, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy & Stone, commented: "To make the most of your retirement years you want peace of mind, comfort and independence. Our new development will offer just this and more. The apartments will be low maintenance in design and will benefit from modern fittings, good security and will have a number of specialist features."

These features include 24-hour emergency call points, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, illuminated light switches, a video entry system, easy grip lever taps in the bathroom and kitchen and energy efficient heating.

Residents will also be able to enjoy landscaped gardens, socialise and relax in the communal lounge and invite family and friends to stay in the development's guest suite. A laundry room, lift and private parking will also be located on site.

Apartments will be available to buy off plan in early 2013 with first occupations taking place by summer 2013.
