Barratt Homes has said it is committed to building on recycled land and cited its new Somerton Court development in Erdington, Birmingham as an example.

The new homes are being built on brownfield land and this involves turning the O'Sheas pub into one and two-bedroom apartments.

David Child, sales director, said this is a prime example of how Barratt seeks out brownfield land in areas where communities need more homes.

"We fully support the government's commitment to developing brownfield land to meet housing needs," he said.

Today we're industry leaders in brownfield development, significantly exceeding government targets by building over 80 per cent of new developments on recycled land."

Somerton Court will eventually consist of 45 one and two-bedroom and prices start from £110,500.

Erdington is five miles north-east of central Birmingham, making it an ideal location for commuters.
