A new range of apartments in Birmingham that cost up to 70 per cent less than the market value are now on offer.

Built by Barratt Homes, Somerton Court on Perry Common includes one and two-bedroom apartments that can be snapped up for little as £84,660 each.

The low-cost homes are being offered in partnership with Birmingham City Council, which has asked potential buyers to register at its offices.

David Child, sales director for Barratt, said: "Somerton Court has been built on the site of a derelict pub, regenerating the area to create a small and friendly community.

"Perry Common itself has excellent links to the M6 motorway and is only five miles from Birmingham city centre, providing a haven for local commuters."

According to the Land Registry, the average house price in Birmingham has risen by more than four per cent in the past year and now stands at £134,861.
