Research conducted by leading retirement developer, McCarthy & Stone, has revealed an estimated 1.2m* older people living in the UK have no idea how they will cope financially in the future. In response to the research findings, the retirement specialist has launched a free guide to financial planning in later life, designed to help people over 60 in Greater Manchester better plan for their retirement.

The free guide provides a whole host of useful financial information, specifically tailored for people in later life. Included is a financial planning checklist, advice on state benefits that people might be entitled to and options to help them fund their retirement, including equity release and downsizing. It also gives advice on issues such as making a will and appointing a power of attorney.

Steve Secker, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy & Stone, comments: "Everyone approaches later life differently but to really enjoy the pleasures it brings, a little financial planning and wise money management will help enormously. That's why we've put together this useful mini guide.

"The guide offers straight forward, practical advice about things to consider, where to get help and advice from as well as details of how McCarthy & Stone can help with some of these important decisions."

The guide follows the launch of a number of financial services by McCarthy & Stone, including pension annuities, equity release, legal services and guaranteed funeral plans.

McCarthy & Stone is currently selling a range of one and two bedroom Later Living apartments at Hanna Court on Wilmslow Road in Handforth, and Hodgson Court on Burnage Lane in Burnage. As well as offering a low maintenance lifestyle, purchasers can benefit from maintained landscaped gardens, a shared lounge, and the peace of mind of added security.

*The research was conducted for McCarthy & Stone by OnePoll. Nine per cent of 1000 respondents polled said they have no idea how they are going to cope financially in the future, which if compared to the population of over 60s living in the UK (14,275,000 - cited by Office of National Statistics, UK Population Report, 29 March 2012), equates to over 1.2m people.
