New homes are currently being built in Chadderton and the developer believes they are perfect for those who want the "buzz" of nearby central Manchester but want to live a quiet life in the suburbs.

The Spinners Mews development, which is near Oldham, is on the site of an old cotton mill and will eventually comprise one and two-bedroom apartments and large family homes.

A public space, a football court and a play area for children will complete the development, said housebuilder Redrow.

Steve Daintith, Redrow spokesman, said: "The local authority wanted to see a step change in urban design quality in the area so, in consultation with the council's planners, we designed bespoke elevations for the properties at Spinners Mews."

Prices for a one-bedroom apartment start at £94,950, while a two-bedroom home can be bought for £134,950.

According to the Land Registry, average property prices in Oldham have risen by 7.7 per cent over the past 12 months.
