A growing number of first-time buyers are getting together to afford mortgage repayments according to Redrow, which is promoting a range of two-bedroom apartments in Tavistock.
The housebuilder believes that its Tiddy Brook Meadows development is the "ideal choice" for first-time buyers or friends looking to share a home.
Prices at the development, which is just off the A386 and is located in the Devon countryside, start at £161,950.
Hannah Newnes, area sales manager for Redrow Homes, said: "Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that young people are staying at home longer because they can't afford to buy their own home.
"Getting a mortgage with a friend is the latest way for first timers to get onto the property ladder."
Tiddy Brook Meadows also has three-bedroom terraced homes and semi-detached houses, with prices starting from £220,995.
The gateway to Cornwall, Tavistock is a typical West Country market town, with a population of only 11,000.
