Retirees looking to maintain their independence may wish to consider David Wilson's Cypress Grange development in Bromsgrove.

Comprising one and two-bedroom apartments available, the development is overseen by a house manager, who is responsible for the daily running of the development.

All retirement apartments are connected to a 24-hour Care-line system should emergency assistance be required.

Sales director Louise Ware said: "Finding a genuinely first rate location, with quality high-specification accommodation and superior after sales care are always high on purchasers' lists.

"We know that it is especially important when it comes to searching for a place to live in retirement."

Prices start at £180,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and £238,000 for a two-bedroom residence.

In related news, work and pension secretary Peter Hain wants to restore 90 per cent of the value of pensions to around 125,000 workers who lost their retirement savings when companies went bust.
