Local planning authorities (LPAs) in England and Wales have demonstrated high standards of performance in managing planning applications, the government has claimed.
Around 85 per cent of planning authorities either met or surpassed the government's target of deciding 60 per cent of major planning applications within 13 weeks.
In addition, 93 per cent of LPAs met the target of deciding 65 per cent of minor planning applications within a period of eight weeks.
"I am pleased to see that performance is remaining steady overall and that a significant number of authorities are continuing to improve their performance," said planning minister Iain Wright.
In related news, a study by SmartNewHomes.com found that the average price for new-build properties grew by 0.6 per cent in the final quarter of the year.
In November, prices climbed by 0.8 per cent, which suggests that predictions about a decline in the housing market could be premature.
