David Bexon, Managing Director of SmartNewHomes.com comments on the implementation of EPCs for new homes from 6th April 2008:
“Buying new means immediate energy efficiency advantages and the new legislation, requiring all new homes to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) from 6th April will highlight this.
“The EPC will include an environmental rating which measures the property’s impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. New home buyers will now receive a certificate outlining the energy efficiency rating of their new home. This is graded from A-G with an A rating suggesting that the property produces less emissions and hence, is more environmentally friendly.
“New homes sold off-plan will not require a full EPC as these can only be produced following a physical inspection of the completed building. Instead a Predicted Energy Assessment (PEA) will be completed.
“Living in a new home could save a household £556 a year on energy bills and cut CO² emissions by more than 60 per cent, according to recent research. I firmly believe that implementing EPCs is a positive step forward to raising awareness of the overall efficiency of new homes and the impact they have on our environment.”
