Now is a great time to buy property near the Thames as it tends to hold its value well, claims one expert.

According to Nicholas Leeming, director of propertyfinder.com, the houses generally fare better than those in "peripheral locations", making them an excellent investment.

"Properties on the waterfront often have the advantage of panoramic views and so can attract considerable interest," he continues.

Mr Leeming says the region is likewise popular for developments, with deals to be done in the area if people know where to look.

Among those to have benefited from brand new developments in London over recent weeks is the British Sociological Association, which bought a suite along the Thames from developer St George.

Located on the north bank of the river, adjacent to Chelsea Harbour, the property has one of the city's most prestigious addresses, the developer claims.

The association will benefit from a number of facilities including bars and shops in the surrounding area, it adds.ADNFCR-1100-ID-19063563-ADNFCR
