A number of statements made about the housing market are "outrageous" and "scaremongering", one expert claims.

Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow.com, says first-time buyers should not be put off by such suggestions, instead urging them to look beyond the headlines.

"The last reports I read were that the house [prices] were falling gradually. We haven't even seen a crash as such. We've seen slow decline in house prices," she comments.

Ms Adams claims those looking at getting on the property ladders are likely to stay away from the market when they hear about its problems, deeming the reports "very irresponsible".

According to Zoopla.co.uk, the average UK home has lost £100 per day, every day since March 1st last year, wiping almost £1 trillion of value off the UK housing market in the past year.

It also found that homes in Wales have fallen £68 per day and those in Scotland have seen the slowest decline over the most recent twelve months.ADNFCR-1100-ID-19072995-ADNFCR
