George Wimpey will be offering tips on taking advantage of the government's HomeBuy Direct loans this weekend.

The property developer will be hosting advice days at the City development in Coventry on May 16th, 17th, 30th and 31st.

HomeBuy Direct loans cover 30 per cent of the cost of a brand new home using government funds, only leaving the remaining 70 per cent of costs in the hands of the buyer.

This means that a typical mortgage required for a two-bedroom apartment in the City drops from 89,995 to just £62,997.

Daniel McGowan, regional sales and marketing director for George Wimpey, said: "The government's HomeBuy Direct loans make it possible to afford a home with a lower cost mortgage and without the need for a deposit."

However, he warned that there are limited numbers of properties available, so buyers will only be able to take advantage of the scheme on a "first come, first served basis".

New property buyers may also be able to make energy savings, following the announcement by housing minister Iain Wright that all new homes will feature devices to prevent bath taps from getting too hot.ADNFCR-1100-ID-19167634-ADNFCR
