After having spent the last two years on the road, Stuart and Susan Ellis have swapped their motor home for a new George Wimpey home in Thornaby.
The couple have recently returned from travelling around Europe, and are now enjoying life in a four bedroom townhouse in the housebuilder’s Thorntree Vale development on Master Road.
Having taken voluntary severance from their jobs in March 2007, Susan, aged 44, and Stuart, aged 50, decided to sell their original home in Ingleby and fulfil their dream of travelling.
“We had an absolutely fabulous time on our travels,” said Stuart, “but we’d always planned to return home after two years and had put money aside for a house.”
The couple began looking at older homes in the area but couldn’t find anything they liked. Then they came across the Thorntree Vale development in Thornaby.
“Susan had previously lived in cottage style homes,” commented Stuart, “so, at first, she wasn’t keen on buying a new-build house, but when we looked round one of the Arlington four bedroom townhouses at the development, she fell in love with it.”
Within a week, the couple had a call from George Wimpey to say the sale of an Arlington at Thorntree Vale had fallen through and a house was now available.
Stuart said: “We went back to the development to have another look at the house and were both smitten. As an added bonus, because it had been half way through a sale, the property already had carpets and the garden was turfed so it felt very homely.”
The Arlington home comprises a kitchen with dining area, a cloakroom and integral garage on the ground floor, while, on the first floor there is a lounge, bathroom and a bedroom. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms including the master bedroom with en-suite shower room.
Stuart said: “We love the design and the additional space it gives us being over three floors. Having a bathroom and bedroom on the first floor is very useful as we reserve these for my mother when she comes to stay, and we’ve turned a bedroom on the top floor into a study.”
So how are the couple handling life back in a house rather than in a motor home? “The most noticeable thing is that if you roll over in bed at night, the walls don’t shake!” said Stuart. “And, of course, it’s great to have our own home comforts again and a nice bathroom.”
He added: “We are very happy in Thornaby because we have everything we need on our doorstep. Our house overlooks the green and we’re just up the road from an Asda store and close to the new shopping precinct along with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants.”
The couple are also very complimentary about the customer service they have received. Stuart said: “Having lived in several other builders’ new-build homes, I can safely say that their service doesn’t come close to the support we’ve received from George Wimpey. A lot of companies forget about you the moment they hand you the keys, but George Wimpey has been a tremendous help to us since we moved in, and has been professional every step of the way.”
