A ceremony to hand over ten much needed affordable homes to United Welsh Housing Association took place at George Wimpey’s development The Grove in Radyr this week.

To mark the occasion, Taylor Wimpey divisional chairman Peter Truscott, regional managing director Keith Simmons and project manager Peter Pettit met at the development to officially hand over the keys to United Welsh Housing Association chief executive Anthony Whittaker.

Working in partnership with United Welsh Housing Association, ten three-bedroom family homes have been delivered by Taylor Wimpey at the development on De Clare Drive. Each property has been developed to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 standard and Design Quality Standards set down by the Welsh Assembly.

Keith Simmons, managing director of Taylor Wimpey South Wales, commented: “Thanks to a social housing grant from Cardiff City Council and the Welsh Assembly, Taylor Wimpey has been able to work in partnership with United Welsh Housing Association to deliver these homes. Taylor Wimpey South Wales has a long standing partnership with United Welsh and this has helped to ensure an exceptionally efficient build process, with all ten homes being completed within six months.”

Anthony Whittaker, chief executive of United Welsh Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to receive the keys for these new properties. Affordable housing is urgently needed in Cardiff, particularly three-bedroom family homes. We have developed a strong working relationship with Taylor Wimpey, something that has been crucial during these tough economic times. It has contributed to United Welsh delivering 150 affordable new homes in the past 12 months. Feedback from tenants has been positive and we are looking forward to future projects.”

George Wimpey’s development The Grove is located on De Clare Drive in the village of Radyr four miles north of Cardiff. The development comprises a range of two bedroom apartments and three, four and five bedroom homes.
