Housing minister John Healey has announced the release of £51 million of Kickstart initiative money to build 2000 stalled homes on 27 schemes nationwide.
Speaking at today's Housing Market Intelligence conference in London, Healey said "this government is putting money - your money, tax payers money - where its mouth is." He said he had now announced £1 billion of help for the industry.
The new Kickstart schemes include developments by Miller, Persimmon, Lovell, Bellway, Barratt, Wates, Galliford Try, Crest Nicholson and Larkfleet Homes.
The minister also announced that of the 40 companies shortlisted for the New Deal scheme - where companies build on HCA land so the risk is taken by government but margins are reduced - 16 are construction companies.
"New companies will bring a new competitive edge to the industry," he said. "It is this part of the (government's) housing pledge which is the most radical and far reaching. The challenge is to build new homes and greener homes."
The first builders of the New Deal schemes will be on site in April.
