The Zero Carbon Hub is to start developing a national energy efficiency standard for homes.

The move is part of the government’s response to the consultation on the definition of zero carbon this summer. Housing minister John Healey has urged for a “challenging but practical” minimum national standard for energy efficiency which is a key step towards delivering zero carbon homes by 2016.

“Our aim is to develop a national energy efficiency standard that is both suitably stretching but also realistic from a business perspective,” chief executive of the Zero Carbon Hub Neil Jefferson said.
