As soon as they saw the plans for the stunning new Malvern penthouses at the Diglis Water development in Worcester, Richard and Gillian Redwood knew they’d found their dream home. After years spent looking for the right property they weren’t about to let it slip through their fingers so the couple bought it off-plan to secure it.
When their three children flew the nest Richard and Gillian, who currently live in a four bedroom home near to the Cathedral, began thinking about downsizing and looked at several properties in the Worcester region.
Richard, 67, said: “We decided to buy an apartment because we wanted a low maintenance home we could simply lock up and leave when we go away. Diglis Water was the first development we saw which fulfilled our criteria – nothing else came close to what we wanted.
“Although we are downsizing we didn’t want to compromise too much on space, having been used to living in a large family home and we wanted enough rooms for our children and grandchildren to come and stay in. We loved the outdoor space offered by the large balcony and, of course, the fantastic views of the river. The Malvern penthouses ticked all the boxes for us and so as soon as we could we bought one off-plan.”
As a former architect’s draftsman Richard was able to read and understand the plans so he could visualise what the penthouse will look like when finished.
He added: “I can understand why people might be nervous about buying off-plan as it can be difficult to picture what you are actually getting for your money, when all you have is a bit of paper in front of you. However, having studied the plans I know the waterfront apartments will be fantastic and the advantages of buying off-plan can be enormous. For us the biggest benefit has been that we can now relax. Our dream home is secure, we don’t need to worry about arranging viewings or rushing to see properties and we have plenty of time to sell our current home and arrange our move.”
Taylor Wimpey’s (formerly Bryant Homes) new collection of 46 one, two and three bedroom Malvern apartments at Diglis Water, which are priced from just £134,995, will boast beautiful views of the waterfront park, where work is due to commence shortly, and the riverside and cathedral beyond.
Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director, said: “We have already sold six apartments in our first phase and as our purchasers have found, there are a number of advantages to buying off-plan. Although the first completions won’t be until 2010, anyone reserving an apartment now will be able to take advantage of prices that reflect the current market. As well as getting the pick of the plots and the chance to put your own stamp on the interior design, if you buy one of these beautiful new homes we will pay your mortgage or your rent until you complete!*
“We’re urging house hunters keen to buy the best views in Worcester to make a prompt visit to us. We’ve already sold three of the penthouses and, following the interest we’ve had, we don’t expect the apartments to be available for long.
Diglis Water, which has won an NHBC Quality Award and a Seal of Excellence Award, is situated where the Birmingham and Worcester canal meets the River Severn and has breathed new life into Worcester’s riverside. Residents can already take advantage of a fully equipped modern gym at the development and the city centre is just a short walk away.
