Barratt Eastern Counties has received permission to construct a number of new homes in Basildon from the local authority.
Basildon Council approved the firm's plans for 70 flats in the area, as long as it can agree a cash donation towards the cost of building
affordable homes elsewhere in the district.
Responding to the development, Keith Parrett, managing director of Barratt Eastern Counties, said: "We are delighted our planning application, which includes 70 new homes in Basildon, has been approved."
The new development will be located on a derelict car park in Southernhay and the block will be four storeys high.
According to Phil Rackley, ward member for St Martin's, the property plans will help to improve the area.
Barratt Homes is also involved in property construction at Clover Mead and is offering purchasers two contrasting styles of homes at the location, with timber window frames available in some of them.
