The amended Part L has been launched today (March 12) housing minister John Healey has announced.
As expected, the amendments mean that new homes built must be 25% more energy efficient, reflecting Code for Sustainable Homes level three. The new Part L (conservation of fuel and power) will come into effect in October, giving housebuilders six months to prepare for the changes.
Healey commented: “The higher green standards we’re bringing in this year will cut emissions and play a crucial part in achieving zero carbon policies. They will also make homes and businesses cheaper to run.”
The technical guidance for Part L is not yet available, Communities and Local Government (CLG) said, but would be published “shortly.”
CLG also said that the amendments to Part F (ventilation) and J (combustion appliances and fuel storage systems) had been launched, to come into effect in October.
