Over the last couple of years the Spanish city of Murcia has "sprung alive", according to one expert.

Conrad Bedford, a spokesperson for Overseas Property Shop said that Murcia has seen huge investment from Polaris World, the golfing giant, which has popularised the area.

This has highlighted other attractions such as the stunning beaches and the Men Menor, otherwise known as the mini-sea, which is famous for windsurfing and other water sports.

"Over the last couple of years it has sprung alive and it’s very nice. Where it was once dark and dusty, now the big golf resorts are spending money on the infrastructure and it’s really very pretty," he said.

Inhabitants range from young investors and families to recently-retired Britons and Scandinavians.

Transport links are also good to other parts of Spain, south to Gibraltar and north as far as France, he added.

In related news, Saga has said that taking out a new mortgage or remortgaging are both popular ways of generating funds for Spanish property investment as opposed to equity release.
