Eco-friendly homes offer 'enhanced quality of life'

Buying an environmentally-friendly house is likely to provide a better quality of life for the homeowner and the community, one organisation has said.

According to sustainable property company Ecos Homes, purpose-built 'green' homes are usually warmer because of the way they are constructed, saving both energy and money.

This type of property also tends to rely less on toxic building materials and electrical devices that can harm the environment, the firm stated.

Cara Naden, spokesperson for Ecos Homes, said: "People are becoming more aware of carbon neutral homes but it is just as important to focus on the materials that are used in construction.

"We also try to highlight the importance of natural, local and reclaimed products which will reduce the impact on their health and the environment."

Last month, plans to build an eco-friendly housing development in east Manchester was given the green light.

Manchester City Council approved plans for Gleeson to build Gorton Monastery Village, which will feature high insulation standards, energy saving appliances, and cycle and bin storage.
