Barratt Homes has said it will plant a tree for every house purchased at a new development in Church Gresley in Derbyshire.
The housebuilder has also promised to plant a tree in the National Forest for everyone who visits a showhome at The Glade development.
The National Forest Company has welcomed the move, which has been described as a "very real contribution to the environment".
Sophie Churchill, who heads up the forest company, said: "It is very important for new developments like this to be in sympathy with their surroundings.
"The Glade development looks great and Barratt are should be complimented for thinking ahead and considering what it will look like in 50 years' time."
Once completed, The Glade will comprise 119 new homes - a combination of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
Barratt has said the development is an "ideal location" for commuters who work in Burton-on-Trent, Derby and the West Midlands.
