West Manchester is at the centre of a housing boom not witnessed for more than 20 years, it has been claimed.

More houses and apartments were constructed in Salford last year (2,200) than in any other time over the past two decades

New homes include Countryside Properties' New Broughton development, the first phase of which has almost sold out.

The housebuilder has already announced a second phase that will comprise one and two-bedroom apartments.

Councillor Derek Antrobus said that construction firms are continuing to show "great confidence" in Salford and its housing market.

"Fewer people are leaving Salford and more people are coming in and making it their home, halting the long-term decline in population that we've seen over the past few decades," he commented.

Nearly all the developments have been built on brownfield sites, which were previously occupied by domestic, commercial or industrial premises.
