'Graduates struggling to get on property ladder''Graduates struggling to get on property ladder'
Over half of all graduates who left university ten years ago have still not managed to get on to the property ladder.
This is despite the fact housebuilders like Barratt have said that first-time buyers and those on low incomes only have to pay 75 per cent of the purchase price on selected homes as part of its Dream Start scheme.
A study by insurer Scottish Widows discovered that only four in ten graduates have bought their first property, while many others have decided to share mortgage payments with friends or family.
"The findings tell us that first-time buyers are increasingly pooling their resources in order to get on to the property ladder," said Scottish Widows spokeswoman Amanda Docherty.
"I would urge graduates to take the time to consider all the options that are available in the marketplace and choose the one that is right for their circumstances."
According to Abbey Mortgages, one in four first-time buyers have said they would consider from one end of the country to the other to get on to the property ladder.
