The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has launched a campaign intended to improve the energy efficiency of new homes in Britain.

Known as Building a Greener Britain, the campaign's long-term goal is to develop policy recommendations for the government to implement.

The FMB hopes the initiative will help encourage construction firms, architects and householders to ensure new-builds are more eco-friendly.

"With buildings contributing 47 per cent of the UK's total carbon emissions, the FMB has a key role to play in helping the government achieve its target to cut carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050," said FMB director Brian Berry.

"Over the coming months the FMB is determined the building sector will be ahead of the game by outlining policy recommendations to government."

The FMB, which represents more than 13,000 building firms, said it will produce a report in June 2008.
