Hundreds of apartments planned for Rochdale

Wilson Bowden Developments has unveiled plans to build nearly 300 new apartments in Rochdale town centre.

The developer is in competition with two other construction companies for a contract to regenerate the east side of Rochdale in north Manchester by creating a riverside complex.

Proposals include 282 new apartments, a Debenhams department store, a large Marks & Spencer, 1,200 new car parking spaces, cafes, bars and restaurants.

John Hudson, chief executive of Rochdale Development Agency said it is an "exciting time" for the people of Rochdale.

"We have a fantastic opportunity to attract significant private sector investment to completely change the way our town centre functions," he added.

This is not the first time that Wilson Bowden Developments has unveiled Manchester regeneration plans. A planning application for the redevelopment of Bolton town centre has been approved, while proposals for Oldham are under review.
