First-time buyer homes 'part of new Scottish development'

First-time house buyers in Glasgow could benefit from a £50 million development on the site of the former Ruchill Hospital.

Housebuilders Gladedale and Bellway have acquired the site and have submitted plans for over 500 homes, with work expected to begin in 2009.

Crawford Copstick, managing director of Gladedale, commented: "Ruchill Hospital is an outstanding regeneration opportunity and our development will play a key role in the continuing revitalisation of this part of north Glasgow."

The company will also work on projects redeveloping Law and Broomhill hospitals.

Gladedale is the UK largest private housebuilder and has already worked on projects such as the regeneration of London's Royal Quay.

Its presence in Scotland has been particularly significant, with the recent landmark Quartermile project in Edinburgh seeing the development of 650 homes, a hotel, office and leisure space in a city centre location.
