Countryside Properties is building 197 new homes in Heywood in Rochdale to the north of central Manchester.
The new 13-acre development is known as Copper Wells and is on the site of a former industrial warehouse known as Unity Mill, which was pulled down in June.
Copper Wells will eventually consist of three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, as well as townhouses.
Countryside Properties sales director Martin Leggett said the development will appeal to families and young professionals who work in Manchester.
He added: "Copper Wells will offer high quality, well designed homes and we're sure it will prove very popular with local residents hoping to climb the property ladder."
At a time when national house prices are falling, the Land Registry says the value of property in Rochdale has risen by 4.1 per cent over the past year.
Meanwhile, nearby Bury and Manchester have seen house prices increase by 3.5 and 6.7 per cent respectively over the same period.
