Salford's Chimney Pot Park wins housing award

Chimney Pot Park in Salford in Greater Manchester has been named the overall winner at the Housing Design Awards.

The development in the district of Langworthy, near Salford Quays, is a restoration of hundreds of Victorian terraced homes that were rescued by Urban Splash six years ago.

Chimney Pot Park comprises homes where the bedrooms are located on the lower level, while the living quarters are on the upper floor.

Commenting on the award, housing minister Caroline Flint said the development is a good demonstration of sustainable housing.

"These awards show the incredible results that can be achieved when strong partnerships are formed between local communities, planners, architects and developers," she remarked.

Urban Splash has received almost 240 awards for its commitment to architecture, regeneration, design and enterprise.

It is currently investing over £1 billion in regeneration projects in Castlefield, New Islington and Altrincham, all of which are in Greater Manchester.
