A midlands-based housebuilder has said first time buyers should not be deterred from entering the housing market.

Peveril Homes says it can help people find the right property for them and points out that there are plenty of mortgage lenders willing to advance funds.

According to a recent study by Abbey, two-thirds of would-be first time buyers have postponed plans to move because of financial uncertainty.

Angela Thomas, sales manager at Peveril Homes, believes there is a perception among first time buyers that mortgages are hard to come by, but this is "not necessarily the case".

Ashleigh Gardens in Sutton-in-Ashfield, for example, is a popular development among new buyers.

It offers a choice of two and three-bedroom semi-detached homes, three-storey townhouses and four-bedroom detached homes, with prices starting from just £128,950 (Correct at time of publication).

Last week, HSBC said that 98 per cent of would-be homebuyers are in a position to secure a mortgage, but are unwilling to do so while house prices are falling.
