Barratt repeats stamp duty pledge

The West Midlands division of housebuilder Barratt Homes has pledged not to wait to see if chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling is going to announce a suspension of stamp duty.

Anyone buying one the firm's homes in Birmingham will from today have no stamp duty to pay because the firm has said it will meet the bill for them.

Sales director David Child said: "We don't want our homebuyers to worry about whether they should buy now or wait to see if the chancellor makes a change to the rules."

In addition to this, Barratt has said buyers at two of its other developments in the region will also have their legal fees and moving costs paid for them.

These are the Loxley Court development in Stratford-on-Avon and CV One in Coventry.

Another Barratt development in the news is the Kings Park development at Kingswood in Hull.

Barratt awarded this its Sales Complex of the Year in 2007 prize and new chairman of Barratt Developments Bob Lawson praised the new development as "stunning".
