Buyers looking to purchase a property in Spain need to carry out thorough research before reaching a decision on the type and location of the home, one chartered accountancy firm has advised.
Bruce Wilson, a tax partner at Campbell Dallas, has issued the tips to those thinking of moving into the overseas property market, urging them to ensure they are aware of the risks associated with buying a house in the country.
Explaining that the system used for buying property in Spain differs in a number of aspects from that employed in the UK, he remarked: "It's a different culture, different rules, different laws; you've just got to be so careful."
One issue he highlighted as being a potential pitfall is that of planning permission, noting that the federal government is threatening to destroy a number of homes in the Catral region as they were built without the necessary approval.
Travel expert Simon Calder recently stated that Spain's popularity among Britons is unlikely to waver, despite the recent fall in the value of the pound against the euro.
