People are still looking to invest in home improvements such as new kitchens despite the downturn, one expert states.

Holly Sleight, marketing manager at Rangemaster, says people often look for quality items so they get the most out of their product.

"They still want the best, but they want the best for as cheap as possible," she reveals.

Homebuyers want more for their money, Ms Sleight suggests, with people less likely to buy their kitchens on credit and more inclined to save up for the expense.

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) reported in September 2008 that 17 per cent of agents thought the best way to add value to a house was through a new kitchen.

It also found that 41 per cent of agents believed that an extension was the best way to add value and four per cent said that upgrading the exterior of a home was the best way to achieve this.ADNFCR-1100-ID-19085403-ADNFCR
