Australia is an enduringly popular destination for people in the UK seeking overseas property for sale, partly because the transition to moving there is relatively smooth, a property magazine has said.

Eynas Brodie, editor of Australian Property Investor, said another factor is that foreign buyers can borrow up to 80 per cent of the value of their property investment, just like Australians can.

As there is no language barrier, similar customs and a safe political environment, Brits find it easy to feel at home Down Under - with perhaps the only major change being the sunny weather.

According to research by Colliers International, people from the UK were the most active foreign buyer segment in Queensland residential property for four years running until 2009, when they slipped to third position behind China and South Africa.

"Anecdotal evidence shows that foreign investors generally like to buy real estate close to universities and transport infrastructure, such as capital city locations," added Ms Brodie.
