One of the obvious and major reasons for this is the fact that credit, particularly for first time buyers who don't have a huge deposit to put down, is so hard to come by.
Victor Sagué, sales and marketing director for Taylor Woodrow de España, said: “It’s true that we have certainly seen a shift in the ages of those looking to buy property in Spain. Traditionally our customers have been aged 45 or over but the interest we are getting from under 45’s has increased; in fact 43% of our enquiries this year have come from a younger age range. Looking overseas opens up a whole new avenue for would be house buyers to explore. Because of the difficulties the Spanish property market has experienced we’ve significantly reduced the prices on a number of our properties, meaning those who would never have considered looking at overseas property, may now be in the market to do so.”
This is not unique to Spain - places such as Florida, South Africa and even Dubai have seen prices drop recently.
