The UAE plans to construct a brand new capital city by 2030. The capital will be situated in Khalifa City, near Abu Dhabi, and will have an area of 4,900 hectares.

It will eventually become home to all government offices and ministries, and will be able to accommodate around three million people. The new city will be built in a contemporary style, designed and implemented by the Executive Affairs Authority. It also aims to create a sustainable economy, rather than uncontrolled growth.

Falah Al Ahbabi, director of the Urban Planning Council (UPC), said: “Although the strategy for 2030 is the general framework for the work, every two years approximately there will be an evaluation of what has been completed and what remains to be done. In addition, any suggestions will be put on the table and if there is a need for amending the strategy, it will be discussed.”
