Isla Canela is located in the exclusive tourist area of Spain: Andalusia. It is a natural island with a bridge to Ayamonte. Located on the mouth of the River Guadiana, on the border between Andalusia and the Portuguese Algarve Isla Canela offers the charm and benefits of both areas. Isla Canela is one of the great European tourist developments covering an area of 1,760 ha, 7 km of fine sand beaches, navigable canals, a looked-after natural environment and an exceptional climate. Isla Canela has a Marina with 231 moorings and there are plans to build another with a total number of 800 moorings. It also has an 18-hole Golf Course and there are plans to build another course with similar characteristics. Sports installations and leisure facilities complete the development of one of the best tourist resorts in Europe. Our residential areas are based on three holiday motivations: next to the beach, golf course and marina. Isla Canela covers an area of 1760 ha on the mouth of the River Guadiana. The partial plan, approved in June 1993, covers 60% of the area, in other words, 1058 ha. However, effectively it covers only 598 ha.
The plan establishes limits of 0.27 m² of ceiling for each m² of floor space and a maximum height of four stories. In addition, the partial plan sets a gross density of only 41 inhabitants per hectare, much lower than other similar tourist centres. The project includes the construction of two marinas (one of them already in operation) to the east and west with a capacity for 800 moorings. The project also includes two golf courses, as well as other sports installations and facilities, etc. Isla Canela is situated 50 km from Faro Airport and 150 km from Seville Airport. Isla Canela is based on three holiday motivations: BEACH, GOLF AND MARINA
