Motherwell is a thriving, lively town with a comprehensive choice of high street stores and specialist retailers. It also boasts a good selection of restaurants, pubs & clubs. The Motherwell Heritage Centre provides a dose of local history and for arts, culture and entertainment, there is the Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre.
The town is currently being enhanced by the extensive redevelopment of the former Ravenscraig site. When completed this will feature retail outlets, a multiplex cinema, a ski centre and a new college.
The Citygate development is close to the M74 & M8 motorway network and a short walk to Airbles Railway Station. This means it is an excellent base for commuting to the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and the neighbouring towns of Hamilton and Wishaw.
Sports and the countryside
On Citygate’s doorstep is Strathclyde Country Park, which is firmly established as one of Scotland’s leading centres for outdoor recreation. With over 1,000 acres of woodland, rough wetland and parks it’s a place where you can walk or cycle or simply chill out and watch the wildlife.
Local facilities include football pitches, jogging tracks, horse riding, orienteering, cross country tracks and a fitness gymnasium. Watersport enthusiasts are also spoilt for choice – rowing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and water skiing are all available on Strathclyde Loch and, if you prefer something a little more leisurely, there are also Pedalos, Bumper Boats and leisure Boat Trips.
