ON YOUR DOORSTEP
Dibden Purlieu is a popular residential area, offering a good range of village shops, a pub and two restaurants. There are schools for all ages and plenty of other local amenities. Nearby Hythe has a hospital, more shops and other attractions, and also a pier with a regular ferry service to Southampton.
The main A326 road skirts one edge of the village, and right across the road, the 145 square miles of the New Forest begins, for walking, cycling, horseriding and exploring at your leisure. Must-see destinations within a short drive include Beaulieu, with its Abbey and stately home, and of course the excellent National Motor Museum, with its incredible collection of cars of all ages, including several of James Bond’s!
Bucklers Hard, on the Beaulieu River, is also well worth a visit. The Master Builders Hotel with its restaurant and pub is located here, together with an interesting museum – in Nelson’s day,
they used oaks from the New Forest to build ships for his navy here. Exbury Gardens is another popular day out – famous for its beautiful rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP
The bustling city centre of Southampton is a short drive or bus ride away. There are several shopping streets and centres, but the award-winning West Quay is perhaps the most impressive.
