Windsor is nestled in rolling countryside, with almost 5,000 acres owned by the Crown Estate and a further 1,000 acres of National Trust land in the county. There is a popular network of footpaths, bridleways and byways including The Thames Path, which offers some of the finest riverside views in the country. Keen golfers will have an excellent choice of local courses too. Just on the outskirts of Windsor is the renowned Oakley Court country house hotel which has a superb golf course with three PGA professionals on hand to advise you. Further afield located just under 7 miles away in Virginia Water is the Wentworth Club offering three championship golf courses surrounded by ancient woodland, each has its own charm and unique challenge.
Just 7 miles from The Claremonts is the renowned Guards Polo Club, which has the Royal seal of approval with the Duke of Edinburgh as its President. The club's grounds are located on the historic Smith's Lawn, which in the summer months also plays host to the Windsor Park Equestrian Club.
There’s also plenty to explore closer to home in Windsor. The famous Windsor Castle draws many visitors from all over the world, as does the popular family attraction, Legoland. The town’s royal association extends to the Royal Windsor Racecourse that hosts many exciting events. With such an enthusiastic royal patron, Windsor’s association with equestrian sports comes as no surprise and the town also hosts the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Located in the private gardens and parklands of Windsor Castle, the show celebrates the huge variety of the sport and if you tire of that the accompanying shops, Food and Drink Festival and fun fair will be sure to keep you entertained. Alternatively the world renowned Royal Ascot race course is just over 6 miles from The Claremonts, offering a whole host of events that are not to be missed.
