Staff and residents at McCarthy & Stone, the UK market leader in retirement living, have run, cycled and even kayaked the length of the country, as well as donated toys, dressed up, dressed down and hosted countless coffee mornings and tea parties to raise an amazing £60,000 for Barnardo's.

The company's Charity of the Year Fundraising Partnership with Barnardo's, the UK's leading children's charity, was launched in late 2011 with a target to raise £50,000 in twelve months. All money raised will help young children and their families across the UK receive the long term care and support they desperately need.

McCarthy & Stone's Aileen King, regional sales and marketing director, comments: "The response from both our staff and our residents over the last 12 months has been phenomenal. Barnardo's is a fantastic organisation, helping millions of children across the UK living below the poverty line. The bringing together of different generations - McCarthy & Stone as a champion of later living and Barnardo's as a champion for children - seemed to really resonate with people and we have enjoyed significant support from many individuals to help us achieve our target."

A host of fundraising events and initiatives took place on developments across the UK and in McCarthy & Stone's offices. And, the fundraising hasn't stopped as Emma Winard, a sales consultant at McCarthy & Stone's Foxhall Court development in Banbury, is cycling 500km across India from Agra to Jaipur in a couple of weeks time to raise even more money for the deserving cause.

Helena Burley, corporate relationship manager from Barnardo's, said: "Thanks to McCarthy & Stone's staff and residents, Barnardo's is able to provide much needed support and care to vulnerable children across the UK. We are so grateful to each person who, through giving up their own time, has helped raise the funds to make this partnership a real success."

McCarthy & Stone is currently selling a range of purpose built, one and two bedroom Later Living apartments at its Bristol developments, Brook Court in Bradley Stoke and William Court in Downend.

As well as offering a low maintenance lifestyle, purchasers can benefit from maintained landscaped gardens, a central lounge and the peace of mind of added security.

Drawing on its unique understanding of living in later life, the retirement developer also offers a range of financial services, including a pension annuity service, equity release, legal services and guaranteed funeral plans.
