Taylor Wimpey North Midlands is inviting people in Shrewsbury to have their say on proposals to create part of a brand new sustainable residential development in the town - after being selected as the preferred developer to deliver one of the first residential parcels of the Shrewsbury South Sustainable Urban Extension (SUE) Masterplan.

Approved by Shropshire Council last month [OCT], the Shrewsbury South SUE Masterplan is a comprehensive document detailing how an 82-hectare area of land off the B4380 Oteley Road can provide for the future housing and employment needs of the local area.

Overall, the Masterplan includes provision for approximately 900 new homes together with employment land, a neighbourhood centre, green infrastructure and public open space, and its approval paves the way for more detailed plans to be developed on a phase-by-phase basis.

Taylor Wimpey has been chosen to bring forward proposals to create a high-quality new homes development on approximately 16 hectares of land to the north of Oteley Road, off Sutton Grange Drive, and is seeking the views of local residents, business people and community groups to help shape the detail of this scheme.

As part of a wider process of public consultation, the leading housebuilder is hosting a public exhibition at the Lord Hill Hotel (Rowland Suite) in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, from 5.30pm to 8pm on Friday 16th November and from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 17th November.

Feedback received from those taking part in the consultation will be used to develop the proposals before a detailed planning application is submitted to Shropshire Council in the near future.

Toby Shaw, partner at respected local commercial property agent Towler Shaw Roberts, said Taylor Wimpey was the ideal candidate to develop the Sutton Grange site, his firm having been instructed to select a preferred developer for the project by landowners the Frank family.

"The Shrewsbury South Sustainable Urban Extension is a hugely important site for the future of Shrewsbury, and it was therefore vital that the right developer was chosen to deliver the first residential element of this exciting project," Mr Shaw said.

"Taylor Wimpey North Midlands has an exceptional track record in creating thriving and successful sustainable communities across the region, as well as a level of knowledge and expertise for this project that's second to none.

"This is one of the largest residential development proposals to come forward in Shrewsbury for some 30 years, and a scheme of such scale and significance cannot be delivered by just anyone. That's why we're really pleased to have a developer of the calibre of Taylor Wimpey on board for Sutton Grange."

Daniel McGowan, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey, added: "We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred developer for the Sutton Grange residential scheme, and we look forward to engaging positively with the community to ensure this project meets the aspirations and priorities of local people.

"We have been supporting the development of the Shrewsbury South SUE Masterplan for some time, and we are fully committed to realising its vision to create an outstanding sustainable development which will both complement and enhance the surrounding community while providing much-needed new homes for the town."
