BREWHOUSE AND CLARENCE, ROYAL WILLIAM YARD, PLYMOUTH

For our first venture into the south west, we could not have chosen a more stunning location than Royal William Yard, Plymouth.

The first phase of apartments, in the fully sold Clarence Building, completed in March 05 with the remaining apartments in Brewhouse Building due for completion later this year.

Steeped in naval history, Royal William Yard covers an eighteen-acre peninsula in Plymouth's Stonehouse/Mount Wise area and is surrounded by water on three sides.

Conceived by Samuel Pepys and designed by Sir John Rennie, it was built as a Victualling Yard between 1825 and 1835 and was part of the biggest project of that time.

Heralded as a remarkable example of an early planned industrial complex, Royal William Yard survived the Plymouth Blitz of World War II unscathed, but it was the ending of the Navy's daily tot of rum in 1970 that sounded the Yard's death knell and it finally closed in 1993. It is now owned by the South West of England Regional Development Agency.

Urban Splash is converting two buildings, Brewhouse and Clarence at Royal William Yard to create 133 apartments and three commercial spaces. It marks a new start for this unique site and we hope it will be the start of many more Urban Splash developments in the south west.

LOCATION

Royal William Yard, Plymouth - coast and country, sea and the city. Plymouth the vibrant regional capital for Devon and Cornwall combines its wealth of seafaring history, beautiful coastal walks and stunning countryside with all that a modern city has to offer.

Plymouth has something for everyone, whether it is enjoying the Barbican with its fantastic restaurants and bars, or taking a pleasant walk along the South West Coast Path. There is the Tamar Valley with its superb river creeks and estuaries, Dartmoor, one of the world’s finest national parks and of course, the ancient county of Cornwall are all waiting to be explored.

A quick walk from Royal William Yard and you can hop on to the Cremyll foot ferry, which takes you to the formal gardens and parkland of Mouth Edgcumbe.

Why not stand in Drakes footsteps on Plymouth Hoe where he famously played bowls as the Spanish Armanda approaches, or take part in history in the making with a trip to the Eden Project.
