Shared Ownership or New Build HomeBuy is a government-funded scheme which helps people who can’t afford to purchase a home outright on the open market. Shared Ownership is also known as part buy, part rent, as the scheme enables you to purchase a share in a home and rent the remainder from a housing association such as Paradigm. Applicants usually buy a 50 percent share in their new home, but the size of the share can vary between 25 per cent and 75 percent and will depend on individual circumstances. In the future, buyers can increase their share when they can afford it, until they own the property outright, which is referred to as ‘staircasing’.
